The South Asian American Justice Collaborative (SAAJCO) is horrified by the deadly shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego (ICSD). As a South Asian civil rights organization, we deplore this violence against Muslim communities and the grief and trauma this attack has inflicted.
Our hearts are with the victims, their families, and the broader Muslim community grieving this devastating act of violence. No one should fear for their safety while gathering in prayer. Mosques, like all places of worship, must remain spaces of peace, dignity, and refuge and not targets of hatred and terror.
We are holding the San Diego Muslim community closely in this moment, especially the children, congregants, and families impacted by this tragedy. We also honor the lives lost and those who acted courageously to protect others during the attack.
We mourn with the community today and remain committed to building a future where all people can live, gather, and worship free from fear.
