Amandeep (Aman) Singh Sidhu is a partner at Winston & Strawn LLP, where he serves as the Hiring Partner for the Washington, DC office. As a member of the firm’s Government Investigations, Enforcement, and Compliance Practice, he focuses on regulatory and compliance counseling, state and federal government investigations, and complex civil litigation – primarily in the health care and life sciences industries. Aman is a member of the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee, Pro Bono Committee, and Associate Evaluation Committee. He regularly speaks on issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession.
Aman’s longstanding commitment to client service and delivering results is reflected in his recognition as a “40 Under 40” by the Washington Business Journal, “DC Rising Star” by The National Law Journal, “Rising Star” by the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, and “Best Under 40” by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. He was also named one of the “Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business” by the Asian American Business Development Center and has been recognized nationally for his health care and life sciences practice by Chambers USA, The Legal 500 US, and Best Lawyers in America.
Aman is deeply committed to supporting the Sikh and broader South Asian community – both in the legal profession and beyond. He is a founding board member of the Sikh National Bar Association and previously served on the board of the South Asian Bar Association of Washington, DC. Notably, when Aman made partner in 2013, he was the first turban-wearing Sikh to achieve that goal at an AmLaw100 firm in U.S. history. He also serves on the board of the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs and is a member of the Annual Giving Board for his undergraduate alma mater, The College of William & Mary.
Aman is also a co-founder of the Sikh Coalition, the largest civil and human rights non-profit organization in the United States dedicated to protecting the interests of the Sikh community. He has led lobbying efforts in the U.S. Congress regarding hate crimes, profiling, workplace, and public accommodation discrimination. Since 2009, Aman has served as lead pro bono counsel in an ongoing effort to end the U.S. military’s presumptive ban on the service of Sikhs and other religious minorities who maintain their articles of faith – including unshorn hair and beards, turbans, and hijabs/headscarves. Working alongside the Sikh Coalition and in coordination with other organizational partners, Aman’ s work led to historic policy changes in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force that have opened the door to over 150 observant Sikhs serving in the U.S. military. Most recently, Aman was part of the team that won a precedent-setting victory in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit that resulted in the first Sikh with turban and beard graduating from Marine Corps Recruit Training in U.S. history. Aman attended The College of William & Mary for his undergraduate studies and received his law degree from the University of Richmond School of Law. Prior to entering private practice, Aman clerked for the late Chief Judge Walter S. Felton, Jr., of the Court of Appeals of Virginia, and while clerking, was appointed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Virginia to serve as a task force member of the Commission on Virginia Courts in the 21stCentury: To Benefit All, To Exclude None.
