Resource Line Intake Volunteers

Community Advocates

🔹Help build trusted community relationships through SAAJCO’s Belonging is Our Resistance initiative by engaging in conversations around identity, belonging, and civic participation.

🔹Support community education and outreach efforts, including Know Your Rights (KYR) engagement, storytelling, and connection to trusted resources.

🔹SAAJCO’s Community Advocate Pilot Program will run from September through March in Atlanta, Dallas, and Houston, with two Community Advocates selected in each region. Applications will open on a rolling basis in July. Stipends may be available depending on funding.

🔹While the formal pilot is limited to these locations, SAAJCO may support similar community engagement opportunities in other regions on a more informal basis.

What kinds of issues does SAAJCO work on?

SAAJCO fights for the civil and human rights of South Asian communities in the U.S. through impact litigation and community engagement. Our programs include Know Your Rights education, civic participation, and coalition-building.

Current opportunities may include:

  • Community Advocates through SAAJCO’s Belonging is Our Resistance initiative
  • Resource Line Intake Volunteers
  • Consulting Attorneys supporting SAAJCO’s Resource Line and legal initiatives

Additional opportunities may be added throughout the year based on organizational and community needs.

Absolutely. If there is a particular project, skill set, community initiative, or idea you would like to explore in partnership with SAAJCO, we encourage you to reach out. Even if there is not a formal role currently listed above, we are open to thoughtful collaborations that align with our mission and community needs.

Most opportunities are volunteer-based. Some programs, including the Community Advocate Pilot Program, may offer stipends depending on funding availability.

Not necessarily. Some opportunities, such as Consulting Attorney roles, require legal experience and licensure. Others, including community engagement and intake roles, are open to individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.

Time commitments vary depending on the role and project. Some opportunities are event-based or short-term, while others involve ongoing engagement over several months.

In some cases, yes. Depending on the role and your institution or program requirements, SAAJCO may be able to provide documentation confirming volunteer hours or service participation. Law students and attorneys may also be eligible for qualifying pro bono experience depending on applicable guidelines. We encourage volunteers to discuss any specific requirements with us in advance.
