Volunteer opportunities vary throughout the year based on SAAJCO’s programs and community needs. Opportunities may include supporting our Resource Line, Know Your Rights programs, community outreach and education, election protection efforts, research, joining our Pro Bono network and other special projects.
No. Many of our volunteer opportunities do not require a legal background. We welcome people with a wide range of skills, experiences, languages, and professional backgrounds.
Some roles, particularly those involving legal consultations or specialized legal work, may require attorneys, law students, or volunteers with specific experience.
SAAJCO provides volunteers with the training, resources, and guidance needed for their specific role. Depending on the opportunity, this may include an orientation, program-specific training, written resources, technology or systems training, and ongoing support from SAAJCO staff.
We want volunteers to feel prepared and supported before beginning their work.
Many SAAJCO volunteer opportunities are remote and open to volunteers across the United States. Some opportunities may be connected to a specific city or state or require in-person participation.
The time commitment varies by opportunity. Some roles involve a one-time event or project, while others may ask volunteers to commit a few hours each month or participate on an ongoing basis.
Most SAAJCO volunteer opportunities are unpaid. From time to time, certain programs may offer stipends or other forms of compensation.
Possibly. SAAJCO may be able to verify volunteer hours or provide documentation for community service, pro bono service, or other service requirements.
Because requirements vary by school, employer, bar association, or other institution, please discuss with us before beginning your volunteer service so we can determine whether the opportunity qualifies.
