Kalpana joins us as an immigration attorney with over 25 years of experience. She has devoted significant time to pro bono efforts with organizations such as the ACLU, Catholic Charities, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, the Tahirih Justice Center, Maitri, Narika, and others.
An activist at heart, Kalpana managed a volunteer group of over 200 individuals with the India Community Center, helped launch one of the largest public campaigns to halt the deportation of an Indian teen DREAMER, organized Know Your Rights and naturalization drives locally and nationally, and played a pivotal role in challenging ICE’s plans to deport over 1500 international students.
As a trusted expert, she has been interviewed and quoted by the New York Times, BBC, Forbes, NPR, the San Francisco Chronicle, and India West, among others.
Today, Kalpana seeks to build on her commitment to inclusive and dignified representation for all. She is dedicated to advancing SAAJCO’s mission of safeguarding the civil, immigrant, and human rights of South Asians in the US. Kalpana will work tirelessly to foster a culture of resilience, diversity, and self-advocacy within the communities SAAJCO seeks to serve. She aims to establish strong partnerships and collaborations with other legal service agencies, community organizations, and leaders, ensuring that SAAJCO’s values of equity, dignity, and justice are upheld in every endeavor.
